2020, DIRTY WORKS

The old Garden Hills mining operation is no longer what it used to be. Since the refinery closed its doors, everything has turned gray. The horizon is a blur of ash, smog, stench, and slag. The sky is barely visible. At the foot of the Hill, only 12 families remain, hanging on to a false rumor. Fat Man, the former phosphate lord, is too obese to move from his fortress at the summit. He is assisted in everything by Jester, a black jockey with an injury who lives in a secluded cabin with Lucy, a stunning mulatto woman. Everything is leading to a slow decline toward extinction. But Dolly, the young Beauty Queen who once escaped that infernal hole, has just returned from New York with a plan (and a cage) to pull Garden Hills out of oblivion.
