Luis Zueco

Luis Zueco (Borja, Zaragoza, 1979) is a writer and the director of the Castles of Grisel and Bulbuente, two fortresses that have been restored and converted into charming accommodations and event venues. He is also an industrial engineer with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in artistic and historical research, a member of the Spanish Association of Friends of Castles, and a contributor—as an expert in heritage and culture—to various media outlets.

Zueco has earned international acclaim from critics and readers alike for his fascinating Medieval Trilogy, consisting of El castillo, La ciudad, and El monasterio. His subsequent books, all published by Ediciones B, include El mercader de libros (2020), El cirujano de almas (2021), and the two-part series Un mundo nuevo, comprising El tablero de la reina (2023) and El mapa de un mundo nuevo (2024), which have established him as one of Spain’s most important novelists. In addition, Ediciones B has recently reissued Rojo amanecer en Lepanto (2011), El escalónn 33 (2012), and Tierra sin rey (2013).

In El juicio (2026), his latest novel, he pays tribute to Goya as a genius and as a man committed to the society of his time through a historical thriller that is both a gripping read and rigorously documented.

His impeccable career has earned him the most prestigious award for historical fiction in Spain, the 2026 Ivanhoe Prize.
