Mónica Rouanet

Mónica Rouanet was born in Alicante in April 1970 and is the descendant of Valencians and French people. She moved to Madrid at age 7 after living in several cities across Spain.

She studied Philosophy and Literature and specialized in Education and Psychology. For more than 20 years, she has worked on comprehensive intervention projects with people at risk of social exclusion, without ever abandoning her great passion: writing.

She has been writing since she was very young. At age 19, she was in a car accident that caused her to lose her memory. Upon returning from the hospital, she found among her belongings several short stories and a novella she had written herself—an experience that reinforced her literary calling.

In her daily life, she observes with curiosity the lives she imagines behind the windows of houses and finds inspiration in small, everyday details. The characters she creates, with their strengths and flaws, are the true protagonists of her novels.
