Outraged by the injustice, she rebels and plans a secret voyage with Teo, her true love, aboard one of the ships bound for America. But an incident prevents Teo from boarding, and suddenly Marta finds herself crossing the Atlantic Ocean alone — terrified.

After a year of fending for herself in Buenos Aires, enjoying freedom and democracy, Teo finally arrives. But danger soon finds them too: Darío Montes, a hitman hired by Marta’s former fiancé — who has not forgiven her for abandoning him right before the wedding. The young couple must once again set out on a new escape.
