Barcelona, 1972. A mysterious murder at the Yacht Club that will put the police, the highest echelons of the city’s bourgeoisie, and the Secret Services of the House of Prince Juan Carlos of Bourbon on edge.
One morning in 1972, a body is found floating in the waters of the Barcelona Yacht Club. The deceased is Alberto García Rañé, a young man from Barcelona’s upper-class society and a crew member of the Blue Spice, one of the sailboats participating in the selection for the Munich Olympics.
The autopsy reveals that the cause of death was a severe blow to the head, and all eyes turn to the Blue Spice, where the deceased is said to have been aboard—but not everything is as it seems.
The investigation is assigned to police inspector Cristóbal Molina, newly arrived in Barcelona and a former Navy officer who served in intelligence until malaria contracted in Guinea forced him to leave his military career.
The criminal investigation in Barcelona falls under the jurisdiction of Judge Marta Esteller, one of the first female judges in Spain. Married, with a young daughter, she has a brilliant judicial career and is protected by the President of the Territorial Court of Barcelona.
The investigation is complicated by the fact that one of the sailboats in the trials is skippered by Prince Juan Carlos, and any news that might connect him to the case must be avoided. Those involved lie to divert attention toward a drug-related matter, but the judge and the inspector do not yield to pressure.
