WHEN ALL HOPE SEEMS LOST, A SINGLE GESTURE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

Inspired by the true story of a mother who sacrificed everything to save the children of Auschwitz, this novel demonstrates the power of sacrifice and the strength of human dignity.

1943. Helene Hannemann is preparing her children for school when a group of policemen bursts into her home. Her darkest fear comes true: the SS officers arrest her five children and her husband, all of Romani descent. Although Helene is German, she refuses to be separated from her family, sealing her fate in a way she could never have imagined. After a terrifying journey, upon arriving at Auschwitz, the Hannemanns are confronted with all the horror and chaos of the Nazi concentration camp.

When the soldiers discover that Helene is a nurse, she is forced to work in the hospital of the ruthless Dr. Mengele, who assigns her to run a nursery. In that grim place, where happiness is forbidden, this brave woman becomes a refuge against the brutality for the youngest victims.
