Amelia is married and has a son. She lives on the outskirts of a large city in one of those endless clusters of houses surrounded by gardens. Her life is gray and monotonous.
One fine morning, Amelia’s existence will take a sudden turn when she discovers that she has become a zombie—a living dead, a walking corpse. Amelia’s condition is not unusual in these times. Her case is just one among millions, because for the past ten years, since the first reported infection, the “undead” have been living alongside the living in the streets. Amelia, an ordinary woman who had been living in a state of semi-slavery she accepted without question, will paradoxically come to claim her own life and her place in the world after death.
The Awakening combines social commentary, dark irony, and fantasy storytelling in the vein of Swift or Lem with wild, unrestrained pulp and gore melodrama.
