Lieutenant Tommy Hart’s B-25 is shot down in 1942. He is the only survivor of the crew and is taken prisoner, confined to Stalag XIII in Bavaria.

The prison’s routine is disrupted by the arrival of a Black American airman who is accused of murder. Hart must defend him.
