The night of the kaskarot

Grijalbo, 2025

A small town surrounded by mountains. A community full of secrets. A woman searching for the truth.

A SPLENDID AND ADDICTIVE THRILLER WRITTEN BY ONE OF THE UNDISPUTED MASTERS OF EUSKAL NOIR.

At night, the peaceful mountains surrounding Sainte-Agathe are hidden under a blanket of fog that dissipates at dawn. However, today the sunlight has revealed a macabre event.

As she drives to a small village in the French Basque Country, Zaida can’t stop thinking about what awaits her there. André, her boyfriend, who was visiting family, has fallen from one of the nearby peaks.

Upon arriving at her destination, her worst fears are confirmed, while many questions arise about the accident and her partner’s personality. He never told her that he was descended from a family of kaskarots, an ancient gypsy ethnic group always shrouded in a thick web of rumors and prejudice.

Who was André really? What was he doing walking alone in the woods at dawn? What secrets do the neighbors of this rugged mountain enclave hide?
