In January 2002 he founded El Kraken magazine which lasted until February 2009. Arrabal said it was definitely the best magazine in Europe. In 2007, and encouraged by the writer Manuel Moyano, Balanzá published Crímenes triviales, a collection of stories very well received by the critics. With Los asesinos lentos, his first novel, he won Café Gijón Prize for novel in 2009.
