It is the story of a fascinating character. He was born in Germany and he was, apparently, relative of Rubens. His life was marked by travels, deceits, changes of identity; he was drag down by the development of the events of his time, he was married twice (in Italy and in Spain), he swindled nobles, he dealed in horses, he scaped from the prison and resorted to any kind of cunnings to survive between the Austrias and the Borbons.   

The author reconstructs the trajectory of this amazing character from the scarce material writen about the character, and mainly  from his letters and from the transcription of the interrogations to which he was subjected by the Inquisition,  and he places it in his time with precision and colour.
